A
reputable tunneling contractor ran into trouble when their
TBM failed short of completing a river crossing. The river
crossing was one of many trenchless crossings needed to complete
much needed upgrades to one of the oldest water reuse systems
in the world. Willco was called in to ram 100' of 84"
casing from the other end of the project to rescue the stranded
TBM |

 |
Ground
conditions were wet running soils mixed with small cobble
and river rock. |
|

 |
The
TBM is just in sight at the back of the casing. Crews prepare
to install the final piece of casing to allow us to sleeve
the TBM and retrieve it. |

 |
The
casing is hammered to a point just past the TBM which is now
fully visible. |

After
surrounding the stranded TBM, the process of removing the
machine begins. |

The
TBM finally above ground. |
